Plenty of park space can be found in and around the Deer Ridge and Deer Run communities.
If you’re looking to jump up and get active, look no further than the Deer Run Community Centre. Here, residents will find an outdoor skating rink, public tennis courts, baseball diamonds, and multi-sports fields. Meeting rooms, a gym, and a commercial kitchen are also located at the Deer Run Community Centre. Located next to Deer Run School, this community centre is always abuzz with activity. Nearby, Deer Ridge is host to its swimming pool.
A sizable park can be found along Deer Ridge Dr. SE and Deerview Dr. SE, which hosts additional tennis courts and sports fields. This park also has an awesome playground, which makes it an instant hit with the community’s youngest residents.
In addition to the recreational facilities, a large strip of land along the eastern border of the community has been set aside as preserved park space. Walking trails meander through this park, providing a pleasant place to walk the dog or meet up with friends for a stroll.
Three fantastic courses are within an easy 15 minute drive of the Deer Ridge community: Maple Ridge, Willow Park, and Eaglequest Douglasdale.
As the crow flies, McKenzie Meadows Golf Club is only a moment from the southern edge of Deer Run. However, the Bow River separates this fantastic course from the communities, which makes for a 15 minute driving route to the course. Even still, this excellent course is worth the drive.
Ongoing workshops and frequent events that provide local residents with fun activities for their spare time are a regular part of life in Deer Ridge. A monthly community newsletter makes it easy for residents to find out what upcoming events are happening in the Deer Ridge and Deer Run communities.
Shop with ease, courtesy of the Deer Valley Marketplace, located on the northwestern edge of Deer Ridge. In addition to a grocery store, gas station, and banks, the marketplace also features a number of retail outlets and restaurants. For more ambitious shopping trips, downtown Calgary and Kensington can be reached with a leisurely 20 minute drive.
There are plenty of opportunities for eating out at the local Deer Valley Marketplace, ranging from quick pick fast food options to more formal sit-down restaurants. Regardless of their personal style, local residents can easily ditch the kitchen and enjoy a nice meal on the town.
