For enthusiastic go-getters, growing families, and active individuals, Chaparral offers a multitude of fun things to do throughout the year. This master-planned community has a fantastic collection of local amenities, as well as numerous entertainment opportunities nearby.

Chaparral Lake serves as a hub for the community’s recreation, allowing residents to swim, row, and sunbathe to their heart’s content. Residents are welcome to borrow rowboats, canoes, and paddle boards from the residents association.

While the lake provides endless entertainment in itself, there are dozens of recreational opportunities on land as well. Tennis and volleyball courts, an outdoor arena, cycling paths, and ball diamonds are just a few examples to get you started. The community’s numerous children’s playgrounds are a consistent hit with Chaparral’s youngest residents.

With a notably active residents association, community events are part of the norm for Chaparral residents. Movie Nights in the Park, Family Camp Out in the Park, Summer Fun Day, Stampede kick-offs, holiday celebrations, hockey tournaments, and community cleanups are all examples of awesome events that have happened in the past.

Chaparral’s nearest golf course is the Blue Devil Golf Club, located just east of the community. Deep, well-guarded bunkers and beautiful fairways are signatures of this course, which is known for being challenging yet enjoyable. The local reviews of Blue Devil are consistently excellent, and the relatively new club continues to improve.

Just a bit further, McKenzie Meadows is a more established course that also offers public play, in addition to practice facilities. Sirocco Golf Club, Heritage Pointe Golf & Country Club, and Canyon Meadows Golf Club are also within a 15-minute drive of Chaparral.

Chaparral is home to two local shopping areas: Chaparral Corner and the Chaparral Shopping Centre. Located at 10 Chaparral Drive SE, Chaparral Corner hosts a collection of convenient stores and professional services. Chaparral Shopping Centre, found just off 194 Ave SE, hosts a mix of professional services. Both shopping centres have a collection of medical facilities, and each has a walk-in clinic.

Chaparral’s location alongside MacLeod Trail SE makes it easy for residents to connect with all their favourite Calgary shopping destinations. Downtown can be reached in a leisurely 25 minutes, while numerous shopping plazas, boutiques, and restaurants can be found much closer to home. Chaparral is also within 15 minutes of Seton, the new “downtown of South Calgary.”

For those days when you just don’t want to cook, Chaparral offers a few dining options. The Barking Frog Pub is a popular hangout, while Pizza 73 and Tim Horton’s can satisfy hunger in a jiffy. Some additional dining establishments can be found in neighbouring Walden, including the Windsor Rose, Green Chili Cuisine of India, Taco Time, Subway, and a Starbucks.

The Chaparral Residents Association organizes a number of local programs and clubs, ensuring special interest groups are always available to residents. The specific programs vary throughout the year, but yoga, walking clubs, fitness bootcamps, tennis camps, kayak lessons, and dance groups are some of the classes that have been (and may currently be) available in Chaparral. Seniors programs and children’s groups, like Scouts, are also available.
