HOW TO FALL IN LOVE WITH YOUR OWN HOME

As real estate agents, we love it when people choose to buy new homes. Our industry encourages people to buy and sell as much as possible, because that’s how we make our commissions. But as caring people, we understand that a new house isn’t always the right option. Sometimes, you just need to rekindle the flames and fall in love with your home all over again.

1. CHANGE UP THE COLOURS

A fresh coat of paint in a brand new colour can give your home an entirely different look and feel. If you’re tired of looking at beige walls, try a splash of Emerald, Tangerine Tango or Honeysuckle—these are Pantone’s “Color Of The Year” winners for the past three years, and they are anything but dull. But do keep in mind that too much of a good thing can be bad, so consider half-and-half or accent walls.

Estimated Cost: $100-$200/ room

2. HIRE AN INTERIOR DESIGNER

Ever heard the story of the seller who staged their home, just to fall in love with the new look and stay forever? You too can indulge in this overwhelming sense of pride, without putting yourself through the wasted time or stress of almost selling. Hire an interior designer for a consultation to find out how a simple makeover can transform your home.

Estimated Cost: $50 – $500/hour

3. RENOVATE A ROOM

The right renovation project can leave you blissful for months. The two most common room renos are to kitchens and bathrooms. Replace the counters, flooring, sink, cabinets (or all of the above!) to add new life to a dull room. Get the gourmet grill, kitchen bar or clawfoot bathtub you’ve always wanted and you’ll glow from the excitement of your brand new room for weeks.

Estimated Cost: $15,000 – $20,000

4. GET WHAT YOU GIVE

When life gets in the way, it’s easy to put off the plans you have for your home. But when you put a little bit of love into your home, you get lots of love back. Stop procrastinating those home improvement projects you put on the back burner and make them a priority. Sew those new curtains, repaint the window sills, build that shed or organize those shelves. Whatever it is you’ve been putting off (be honest, there’s something!), the time has come to get it done.

Estimated Cost: Free – $250/project

5. RE-ARRANGE THE FURNITURE

Rearranging furniture comes with an extremely low price tag: free! But putting the couch in a new location and moving around tables can have drastically alter the look and feel of a room. If you’re bored with your home, spice things up with a little change—or a lot! Try to move as much of your furniture as possible to add some brand new life to the room.

Estimated Cost: Always Free!
