SKATE PARK & HOCKEY RINK
The McKenzie Towne skate park is the only skate park in SE Calgary, making it a hit among residents looking for a place to practice tricks and improve their skills. The skate park, an asphalt basketball court, and a hockey rink are all located at McKenzie Towne Gate & McKenzie Towne Link.
A number of themed parks can be found throughout the McKenzie Towne community, enhancing the neighbourhoods and giving residents a number of interesting places to explore. Half the fun is discovering these parks for yourself, but here’s a brief introduction to McKenzie Towne’s intriguing collection of parks:
PRESTWICK FOUNTAIN PARK
Smack dab in McKenzie Towne’s north is the Prestwick Fountain Park, a tranquil place to relax beside beautiful gardens and the park’s namesake fountain. A basketball court and children’s playground make the park popular with families. It’s common to see people lounging in the fields while daring kids challenge the fountain’s spewing water.
In the south, Inverness Square houses a beautiful gazebo, an ample selection of benches, and well-maintained grounds. This is a fantastic place to meet up with friends, go for a walk, or rest in the sunlight. A select few boutique shops and the iconic clock tower are also located beside the square.
This beautiful park was built for butterfly lovers. Butterfly decorations and artwork can be found throughout the park, while the shrubs and flowers have been chosen specifically for their butterfly-attracting qualities.
Several more parks can be found throughout McKenzie Towne, each with special features and attractions. Inukshuk Park, Pirate Ship Park, Trike Towne, Drawbridge Park, and Elgin Hill are just a few of the community’s most popular parks.
A variety of paved walking trails can be found throughout the community, making it easy for residents to get outside and explore their beautiful home. The trails connect some of McKenzie Towne’s best parks and scenic destinations. These trails have become a popular destination for slow walkers, strollers, and runners.
INVERNESS & PRESTWICK PONDS
Two community ponds can be found in the community: Prestwick Pond and Inverness Pond. Though there is no access allowed, these drainage ponds provide beautiful viewpoints for those passing by. The McKenzie Towne walking trails meander past both of these ponds.
MCKENZIE TOWNE HALL
The McKenzie Towne Hall is a community building with a variety of rooms, including banquet rooms, multi-purpose rooms, and community gymnasiums. With banquet facilities and recreation facilities, McKenzie Towne Hall is an excellent venue for private functions like birthday parties, weddings, and anniversary celebrations. McKenzie Towne Hall is also home to the McKenzie Towne Council, who ensure that the community remains beautiful, safe, and sustainable.
